Happy New Year Everyone!
I wanted to share some information about our PTA Art Program and our new art grant from the Beverly Taylor Sorenson Art Learning Program. Our students have benefitted greatly by having our terrific PTA Art Mothers come and help teach art lessons to our students each month. Provo School District leadership also applied for and received an art grant program from the state, which allows us to share with another elementary school, a certified art teacher, Mrs. Jennifer Harper, who visits each Rock Canyon School classroom every other week and teaches students art lessons. Mrs. Harper teaches your children grade appropriate art skills and then art projects are created. The students look forward to having a shift from the heavy academic subjects and enjoy learning and creating during the art education times. Can you imagine being an elementary art teacher, without a classroom of your own and traveling with your “Art Cart” from one room to the next throughout the day . . . but it is working very well. The expense of art supplies is the biggest challenge for the 640 students in our school. We don’t have an immensely large budget from the grant and we are being creative in which art supplies to purchase, but could always use any outside help if you are willing to contribute.

Dear Patrons of Rock Canyon Elementary,
This year the State of Utah will distribute approximately $30,000.00 to Rock Canyon Elementary School. The funds are generated from the interest gained on state owned lands dedicated to help public education. It is called the School Land Trust program, or Trustlands. Our Community Council is made up of members of our community and employees from our school. The Council’s responsibility is to evaluate the areas where the funding would be spent the best to help in student achievement.
If you ever wish to contact any of our council members, or want to attend any of our meetings, you are welcome to do so.
Listed below are our Community Council members for 2013 – 2014:
